Swimming Highlights

by Amy Mills

Over the first semester we have had amazing successes in the swimming club. Our first major success was attending Short Course BUCS in November. We had two relays on the Friday where both teams beat their entry times, which was super! Then on the Saturday, individual races commenced. Zara had never competed before, and she did amazing. Amy and Abi competed in the 50 Back where Amy managed to achieve a PB. Then Amy, Diogo, Alex and Charlotte competed in the 50 Breaststroke. Alex accomplished an amazing time of 36.8 so was super happy there.

In the next session Rebecca competed in the 100 fly which was also fab! Then charlotte, Abi, Diogo, Mia, and Beth competed in the 50 free. Beth achieved a PB going 28.31 so that was amazing. Then we had a team meal on the Saturday night which was very nice.

On Sunday we had Liv in the 200 IM in the three fastest heats which was amazing, she did a time of 2.30. Then Zara did the 100 free. She had also never competed before, so she had entered her time at 2.00 and did a 1.14 which was amazing. Then Alex did her 200IM and she also did 2.30 so that was good! Then, in the final session, we had the 50 fly, Where Marcus, Leyla, Mia and Rebecca competed. Mia was really close to her PB and Rebecca did a PB in a time of 31.3. Then we had Beth and Liv in the 100 back where they both did 1.08 which was amazing.

After these amazing successes we continued training in the gym and swimming on a Tuesday. To celebrate the end of the year we all went for a team Christmas meal where we gave out awards and congratulated each other! All in all, it has been a pleasure to be part of swim this year and the dedication towards the club is amazing! We hope to follow this success as a club by fundraising in the upcoming months which will continue to improve our success as a team.
